Many people are intimidated because of Charles Dickens' reputation, but as with many other phenomena on Earth, give him a reputation yourself. And you can only enjoy his novels if you murders the memory of your English teacher talking about them and sit down, with A GREAT AMOUNT of time, to enjoy. And enjoy! Also be sure to try Gabriel Garcia Marquez if you haven't already!
I have been meaning to read Dumas and Hugo forever and just have never gotten there.
Maugham is on my list too. I have only read one Dickens, so I would like to read more from him too.
